Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has voiced strong confidence in the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) leadership, promising continued government collaboration to boost sports development nationwide.

During a working visit to the GOC headquarters at Olympic House in Accra, Adams met with officials to tackle key challenges in Ghanaian sports. He praised the committee’s efforts in preparing athletes for international events and promoting grassroots initiatives.

Adams reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to GOC programs, including athlete welfare and readiness for major tournaments.

“I am confident in the leadership of the Ghana Olympic Committee and we will continue to collaborate with them for the development of sports in Ghana,” he stated, as GOC President Richard Akpokavie looked on. The minister also committed resources to athletes in Olympic Scholarship programs, underscoring a focus on nurturing talent.

A highlight of the discussions was the long-stalled OlympAfrica recreational and training center project at Amasaman, plagued by squatter encroachments.

Adams assured the GOC of direct ministry intervention: “We are aware of your long-standing recreational and training centre project at Amasaman which is being encroached by squatters. I am happy to say that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation will work with the GOC on the OlympAfrica Project at Amasaman to ensure it is completed for use.”

GOC President Richard Akpokavie briefed Adams on ongoing programs, achievements, and preparations for events like the Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympic Games.

He emphasized efforts to bolster athlete support systems and thanked the minister for his engagement. Both sides addressed persistent issues such as funding, infrastructure, and welfare, vowing intensified partnership.

The visit ended on a unified note, with the ministry and GOC pledging joint action to propel Ghana’s sporting ambitions. This collaboration signals renewed momentum for infrastructure revival and international competitiveness, vital for Ghana’s youth and Olympic aspirations.
