Renowned media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has delivered a high-stakes appraisal of President John Dramani Mahama’s first year back in office, grading the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration with a solid 75% to 80%.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with host Kwame Dadzie on Saturday, 21st February 2026, the media veteran suggested that the second coming of Mahama has ushered in a much-needed era of economic stability and ministerial humility.
Her comments come as the administration marks its first anniversary following the January 2025 transition.
The centrepiece of Nana Aba’s assessment was the notable recovery of the economy.
Contrasting the current fiscal atmosphere with the final years of the previous NPP administration, she praised the President and Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson for steering the nation out of a volatile period.
“I think that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has stabilised the economy… I think his Finance Minister is doing an excellent job. The economy is doing very well now compared to the last three, four years. Things were quite turbulent,” she observed.
In a critique of the former government, Nana Aba highlighted a shift in the posture of political leadership. She claimed the previous administration was marred by a dismissive attitude toward the media and the public, a trait she believes the current appointees have largely avoided.
“There was too much arrogance… from the previous administration. You could listen from their utterances on the radio, the way they were so dismissive of journalists and their commentary. It was just very, very arrogant,” she remarked.
She further noted that President Mahama himself appears to have evolved, ensuring his current staff do not repeat the mistakes of his first term (2012–2017).
“I think that the second coming of JM is a great one. He’s learned his lessons because his first term also had bouts of arrogance—not with him, but with his appointees. But things are different now,” she added.
Nana Aba was quick to name specific officials who have set a new standard for government responsiveness. She particularly lauded the Gender Minister, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, for her proactive approach to social issues and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for his digital accessibility.
“My favourite really is Oboubia. I like what Oboubia is doing with Mahama. The way she goes to the hospitals and it’s become a weekly thing… I like that,” Nana Aba shared.
While acknowledging that it is still early in the day for a four-year mandate, Nana Aba expressed optimism about the direction of the country. She noted that the current crop of appointees appears careful and hands-on, showing up where they are needed most.
“The trajectory looks good. It looks positive and I’m very happy with the work they’re doing so far,” she concluded.
As the NDC administration moves into its second year, Nana Aba’s high score serves as a significant endorsement from a media figure known for her exacting standards, though it sets a high bar for the government to maintain as they approach the mid-term mark.
