President William Ruto has called on the members of the United Opposition to table an alternative agenda for comparison with his development agenda so that Kenyans can decide what suits them.

Speaking in a video shared by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on his X handle on Thursday, February 12, 2026, President Ruto has urged his critics in the united opposition to shun the politics of ethnicity and hatred and instead table their agenda to the public on what they intend to do.

“And that is why I am challenging other leaders; you know, name-calling, ethnicity, hate, and bitterness will not take us anywhere. If you have an alternative plan, tell the people of Kenya. William Ruto is doing so many kilometres of road; what will you do?” Ruto said.

Ruto on Northern Kenya marginalisation

President Ruto has further said that the Northern Kenya region has witnessed historical injustices in terms of development and has been marginalised for the longest time. He has said that his government is devoted to correcting the historical injustice by opening up development plans in the region.

“Under our leadership, we will correct the past of marginalisation and discrimination and rewrite a future of transformation that leaves no Kenyan, no region and no community behind,” Ruto added.

Duale calls for national conversation

In support of Ruto’s sentiments, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, on his part, has said that the government is ready to trigger a conversation centred on ideas and plans for the country, as opposed to the opposition, whose agenda is leaning on spreading tribal politics based on personalities.

“We are calling for a national conversation centred on ideas and a clear plan for our country, not on tribes or personalities. We welcome constructive engagement from our competitors. Please present your alternative development agenda. Let Kenyans objectively compare what we have delivered and what we plan to achieve with your proposals and make an informed decision about the future of our nation,” Duale said.

The leader’s sentiments have come at a time when the United Opposition, led by the Democracy for the Citizens Party and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has been criticising the government and Northern Kenya leaders for neglecting development in the area and making unfulfilled promises.
