Alban Bagbin is the Speaker of Parliament
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called on the government to release land for the development of a dedicated Parliament complex.
He made the appeal at the launch of Parliament’s Corporate Strategic Plan for 2026–2030 on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
“At least we should be liberated from being tenants of the State House to having our own premises as an arm of government. There are a lot of limitations – infrastructural limitations,” he stated.

He further indicated that Parliament is piloting a new IT system to simplify decision-making.
“There’s no consensus without voting; you just have to rely on the human resource. Now, we are trying to upload an IT system where we can have e-voting in the House. So, we are starting the pilot and we believe that it will ease up all the struggles that you see,” Bagbin stated.

He, therefore, appealed to the government to release a parcel of land for Parliament to develop its own premises.
“We need to have a permanent city for the pillar of democracy — a proper Parliament House. So, you see some of the structures here, we can’t have access to them until we ourselves pay, including the Banquet Hall, and now it is falling into disuse. We have to spend a lot of money to bring it back,” he added.
