Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya has clapped back at some Zambians after they took to social media to troll President John Dramani Mahama over an outfit he wore during an official state visit to Zambia.

In a post shared on X on January 5, 2026, the YouTuber seized the opportunity to educate Zambians on the relevance and cultural significance of President Mahama’s attire.

Wode Maya explained that the smock, locally referred to as “Fugu” or “Batakari,” is not a blouse as described online, but a traditional outfit predominantly worn by people from Northern Ghana, especially during durbars and other important ceremonies such as the installation of a chief.

“Dear Zambians, the outfit worn by our President is not a BLOUSE. It is a Ghanaian traditional attire known as FUGU, also called Batakari,” he wrote.

He further noted that the president deliberately chose the outfit for international platforms to promote locally made Ghanaian clothing both within and beyond the country’s borders.

“Our President is deliberately promoting the local garment industry both within and beyond our borders, unlike your President, whose suit is not African. It is unfortunate that many of you, despite having access to smartphones and the internet, still choose to remain ignorant,” he added.

Meanwhile, several Ghanaians, including sports media personality Sadick Adams, have also taken to social media to criticize Zambian netizens over their remarks about the president’s choice of outfit.
