The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has expressed appreciation to Nigerians and other supporters who stood by its members and the family of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, during his illness and after his death.
The association thanked individuals who offered prayers, made phone calls, sent messages, paid visits and provided other forms of support during the difficult period.
TAMPAN’s Global President, Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, conveyed the association’s appreciation in a statement issued on behalf of the body.
TAMPAN appreciates public support
The association said the support received from members of the public provided comfort to Ogogo’s colleagues and loved ones during the period of mourning.
It expressed gratitude to everyone who demonstrated solidarity with the entertainment community following the actor’s illness and demise.
“On behalf of TAMPAN GLOBAL, we sincerely appreciate everyone for your prayers, calls, messages, visits, and support during our beloved Ogogo’s brief illness and demise.
“Your love and solidarity mean so much to us. Thank you all for standing with us. May God bless you,” the statement said.
Ogogo dies at 66
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66. His death was announced by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko.
His death prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Ogogo was a prominent figure in Yoruba theatre and film, where he made significant contributions during his lengthy career as an actor and screenwriter.
Burial held in Ilaro
The veteran actor was buried in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Several prominent figures from the entertainment industry attended the burial to pay their final respects to the late actor.
Among those who attended were Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, Faithia Williams, Femi Adebayo, Dele Odule and Mr Latin.
TAMPAN said the widespread support demonstrated the affection and respect Nigerians had for Ogogo and his contributions to the entertainment industry.
The association reiterated its appreciation to everyone who stood with Ogogo’s family, colleagues and associates throughout the period of his illness, death and burial.
