Wael Fathy Ahmed (L) and Charles Osei Asibey

The Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ghana, Wael Fathy Ahmed, has praised the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for its contribution to the growth of the sport and called for stronger Ghana-Egypt cooperation in sports development.

Ambassador Fathy made the call when officials of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation visited the Egyptian High Commission to discuss opportunities for collaboration in armwrestling, sports business, tourism and athlete development.

A key focus of the meeting was the proposed inclusion of armwrestling in the 2027 African Games, which will be hosted by Egypt.

The Ghanaian delegation highlighted the sport’s strong performance at the previous African Games in Ghana and its potential to contribute to Egypt’s medal ambitions.

Ambassador Fathy described sport as an important tool for strengthening relations between the two countries, particularly through youth development and people-to-people engagement.

Ghana Armwrestling Federation and Africa Armwrestling Federation President, Charles Osei Asibey, said Egypt could become a strategic partner in developing arm wrestling across Africa.

He proposed technical and athlete exchanges, coaching programmes, training camps and competitions to enhance the skills of athletes, coaches, referees and administrators.

The discussions also explored opportunities in sponsorship, sports marketing, event management and investment, with major arm wrestling events expected to support tourism, hospitality and cultural exchange.
