Ada, Jan. 29, GNA – Madam Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, a former Ada East District Chief Executive (DCE), has endorsed Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the best candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.
Madam Pobee described Dr Bawumia as a unifying figure with the vision, energy, and experience to reposition the party and to restore public confidence after recent electoral setbacks.
Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Ada, she attributed the NPP’s loss of some parliamentary seats in Ghana in the 2024 elections to internal divisions, poor communication, and excessive political rhetoric among party members.
According to her, the party must learn from its past mistakes and rebuild through discipline, unity, and respect for democratic values.
She urged party executives, coordinators, and communicators to exercise restraint in their public discourse and avoid language that fuels division or insults political opponents.
“Political divisiveness weakened us. If we want to win again, we must communicate with responsibility and unity,” she said.
Madam Pobee advised party supporters to conduct themselves peacefully during elections, urging voters to cast their ballots based on personal conviction and observation rather than inducement or provocation.
She cautioned against election-related violence, stressing that democracy thrives on tolerance and respect for differing opinions.
“Vote peacefully, stay to observe the counting process if you can, and do not allow yourself to be used to insult or attack anyone,” she appealed.
Touching on internal party processes, she expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s leadership, noting that opinion polls and internal assessments pointed to his growing acceptance across the country.
“Surveys suggest Dr Bawumia will win, but above all, God will make it a reality,” she stated.
Madam Pobee, who acknowledged facing backlash during her tenure as DCE due to what she described as bold development decisions, said leadership required resilience and commitment to long-term progress.
She expressed optimism that Dr Bawumia’s candidacy would resonate with the youth and ensure inclusive governance, assuring that no group would be left behind under his leadership.
