Regulatory lapses causing premix surplus in the market – COPEC

The Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Duncan Amoah, has raised concerns over irregularities in the distribution of petroleum products, particularly premix and condensates.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Saturday, January 24, he explained that some products intended for specific purposes are instead reaching the general market, where unsuspecting consumers end up purchasing them.

Amoah attributed the issue to regulatory lapses and systemic flaws within the distribution chain.

“You started by asking about premix and other products condensates that finds its way to be boxed with other products and sold to the unsuspecting public. Let me put it this way: there is a problem. You have products that you don’t desire to get to the filling station, getting there.

“We strongly believe that it is a regulatory lapse or a systemic problem that needs to be dealt with so that I don’t go loading premix in 100 trucks when the actual demand for premix should have 60.

“If I do that the remaining 40 will not be dumped on a school park. It would have to find its way surreptitiously unto the forecourt where you and I would have to go and buy unsuspectingly. So there is a systemic problem that you will need to deal with.”
