The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into a shooting incident involving a policewoman that led to the death of a taxi driver at Tetegu near Weija on January 19, 2026.
A press release copied to the Ghana News Agency said preliminary findings indicated that the policewoman allegedly shot the taxi driver following a confrontation.
The victim, who was driving a Hyundai i10 taxi, was rushed to the Police Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations revealed that after the incident, the policewoman was knocked down by a vehicle as she attempted to leave the scene.
She sustained head injuries and injuries to both legs and is currently on admission receiving treatment.
Police retrieved one live 9mm round of ammunition, a magazine and one spent 9mm cartridge, among other exhibits, from the scene for examination.
The Police Service assured the public that full investigations were ongoing and said updates would be provided on any development.
It reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in handling incidents involving its personnel.
