Hollywood actor and HACSA patron, Clarke Peters and his Ghanaian wife Penny Ephson Clarke, are currently in Ghana to promote Tech4Girls programme.

The projects is part of the ongoing renovation works for the establishment of the HACSA Innovation and Heritage Hub and training centre and meet with current Tech4Girls scholars and program alumni.

The visit highlighted Peters’ continued support for the mission of the Heritage and Cultural Society of Africa (HACSA), as the organization expands its facilities, with the support of corporate sponsorship and philanthropic individuals both from Ghana and the African diaspora, to train both young women and young creatives in tech, entrepreneurship and leadership skills.

Peters, known for his roles in HBO’s The Wire, Harriet, and Da 5 Bloods, was given a comprehensive tour and overview of the campus renovation progress, which will enhance HACSA’s capacity to deliver technology training and mentorship programs to young people across Africa.

“I’ve heard about Tech4Girls and have been a part of the HACSA Sankofa Network for the past 4 years. It’s always been we’re doing this or that, but it’s not until you come and see something concrete that you realize this is really happening. To come here and hangout with these brilliant girls, this has really been a very amazing experience.” said Peters.

During the visit, Peters walked through the campus to observe the renovation works firsthand, learning about plans to expand training spaces for young scholars and creative fellows. Following the tour, he spent time with Tech4Girls participants and alumni, engaging in conversations about their experiences in the program and their aspirations in technology.

The Heritage and Cultural Society of Africa (HACSA) is an international NGO, non-profit and 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2016 by Ambassador Johanna Svanikier.

HACSA’s mission is to preserve and promote African heritage and culture, reconnect the diaspora with Africa and empower African women and youth through technology, leadership and mentorship.

The organization’s flagship Tech4Girls programme provides hands-on training in ICT, coding, AI literacy, job readiness and leadership skills, equipping girls and young women with critical skills for careers in STEM and other fields.

HACSA Founder and President, Ambassador Johanna Svanikier stated, “Hollywood legend Clarke Peters visited us at the HACSA Campus today.

For the HACSA community he’s not only a patron, he has actively supported our vision to establish the HACSA Innovation and Heritage Hub in Accra, Ghana, which will act as a campus for our Young Creatives Fellowship (YCF) and Tech4Girls Programs and a place of learning, innovation, reflection, creativity and celebration of African heritage and culture.”

“Meeting Mr. Peters was truly inspiring. He took time to really listen to our stories and showed us he believes in how far we can go. The Tech4Girls experience has been life changing for me and reminds me that my potential and story matters globally.” shared Madjikor, a Tech4Girls scholar.

Clarke Peters will participate in HACSA’s upcoming 10th Anniversary Summit taking place in Accra this December as a guest artiste.
