Dear GhanaWeb,

There is a 70‑year‑old woman in our house. One day, she called me and said she liked me and wanted me to be her boyfriend. She is older but lively, and she runs a supermarket across the street.

At first, I said no, considering that she has sons who are even older than me. But she didn’t give up. She remained kind, and whenever I went to her supermarket, she refused to take money from me.

That made me feel she could support me if I agreed to date her. Eventually, when she asked again, I accepted.

From then on, I became comfortable. I visited her shop whenever I wanted and took items freely, and she never complained. For over a year, everything seemed fine.

Last month, I received a call from an unknown number. The caller said he was her son and accused me of sleeping with his mother, robbing her of money, and emptying her store.

I didn’t respond and later told the woman, but she laughed and said I shouldn’t worry because she had her son under control.

A week later, three men in military attire came to my door. They warned me to stay away from her. I told her, and she immediately called her son in my presence, warning him to leave me alone.

Two days ago, the military men returned. They forced me into their car, assaulted me with belts, and made me do harsh exercises. I was released last night, injured and barely able to walk.

When the woman heard what happened, she unexpectedly sent me GH¢10,000 for treatment and came to my door, begging me not to break up with her.

Now I feel conflicted. I don’t want to continue with her, but financially, I am comfortable because of her. I don’t know what to do.
