Yilo Krobo paramountcy appeals to Mahama over Chieftaincy tensions

The Yilo Krobo Paramountcy, together with the Nuer Royal Family Clan, has appealed to the government and President John Dramani Mahama to personally intervene to de-escalate what they describe as growing and dangerous tensions arising from political interference in traditional authority within the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area.

According to the Paramountcy, the involvement of partisan politics in chieftaincy matters threatens peace in the area. They accused the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey and his associates of using political influence to fuel agitations, warning that traditional stools must not become casualties of political rivalry.

The group cautioned that when politics is forcibly introduced into the palace, communal peace is inevitably undermined.

Addressing the media in Somanya on Tuesday, January 20, on behalf of the Yilo Krobo Paramountcy and the Nuer Royal Family Clan, Nene Paddy Keteku Nuer Asamoah dismissed recent rituals and pronouncements by some divisional and sub-divisional chiefs and queenmothers as “customarily invalid, procedurally defective, misleading and entirely without effect.”

He explained that the actions, which purport to challenge the authority, legitimacy, and continued occupancy of the Yilo Krobo stool by the Konor, Oklipeme Annorba Sasraku II, have no basis in custom or law.

“When politics enters the palace by force, peace leaves the community,” he declared. “This is our final declaration as a royal family. Let the whole world take note that the Konor of Yilo Krobo has not been destooled.”

Nene Asamoah further stressed that the Yilo Krobo stool is not vacant and that Oklipeme Annorba Sasraku II remains the exalted Paramount Chief of Yilo Krobo.

He urged all parties involved to desist immediately and return to due process, assuring that the royal family remains resolute in defending its inheritance and safeguarding traditional authority in the area.
