The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, has stressed the need for strengthening indigenous capacity, retaining value within the Nigerian economy and reducing unnecessary dependence on foreign technology providers.

Speaking during a visit to Galaxy Backbone Limited in Abuja, the Minister emphasised that Nigeria must deliberately invest in secure connectivity, data infrastructure and locally developed technology.

According to him, a stronger digital infrastructure will mean more efficient government services, greater opportunities for businesses and a more competitive Nigerian economy.

“Digital infrastructure is no longer simply a technology conversation; it is an economic and national development imperative,” Mr Oyedele stated.

He reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure as a critical foundation for productivity, innovation and sustainable economic growth.

The Finance Minister, who inspected the organisation’s digital infrastructure and received a briefing on its operations, capabilities and expansion plans, commended Galaxy Backbone for its role in providing secure shared digital infrastructure and services to government institutions and assured the organisation of the Ministry’s support as it expands its capabilities.

In a related development, Mr Oyedele has highlighted the important role of cloud technology and digital infrastructure in supporting businesses, improving productivity, attracting investment and unlocking new opportunities for Nigeria’s economy.

“As we move from stability to shared prosperity, building a stronger and more competitive digital economy will remain an important part of Nigeria’s growth story,” he said when he received the chief executive of Kasi Cloud, Mr Johnson Agogbua, at his office in Abuja recently.
