Attack on Energy Ministry staff: Suspects identified, arrested

Information gathered by Citi News indicates that individuals involved in the attack on staff of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition have been identified and arrested.

Sources told Citi News that the suspects are neither national security operatives nor officers of the Ghana Police Service, contrary to earlier reports.

The clarification follows initial claims suggesting that personnel of the Ghana Police Service assaulted ministry staff after an altercation involving an official ministry bus.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred on Friday, January 16, 2026, when staff of the Ministry were travelling in an official bus and raised concerns about what they described as reckless driving by occupants of another vehicle.

The situation is said to have escalated following the complaint, culminating in an attack on the ministry staff.

He later moved to the driver’s side of the bus and delivered another punch, hitting a different occupant.

As the verbal exchange escalated, some of the officers allegedly forced their way into the bus and assaulted additional ministry staff.

Beyond the physical harm inflicted, the officers also reportedly caused damage to parts of the bus, including several seats.
