Popular Nigerian reality television star and comedian, DeeOne, has called on the Federal Government to investigate the financial activities of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) operating in the country, alleging that some of them are involved in unlawful practices.
The entertainer made the call in a video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, where he drew the government’s attention to what he described as the growing misuse of NGOs as fronts for criminal activities.
According to DeeOne, some NGOs are allegedly being used to fund terrorism, kidnapping, child trafficking and other violent crimes across the country.
“Federal Government of Nigeria, please investigate all the NGO accounts in the country,” he said.
“A lot of them are being used to sponsor terrorism, for kidnappers, child trafficking sponsorship. A lot of them are being used for human harvesting sponsorship.”
DeeOne also expressed concern over what he described as the sudden wealth of some individuals who set up NGOs, questioning the sources of their funds.
“In Nigeria today, if somebody should rescue somebody, the next thing the people will open an NGO, and the next thing they become a multimillionaire,” he said.
“We’re not saying you should not make money, but it has to be legit, not at the expense of people’s lives.”
The comedian urged the government to carry out a comprehensive audit of NGO accounts nationwide to ensure transparency and accountability in the sector.
He stressed that while many NGOs are genuinely working to address humanitarian challenges, the alleged activities of a few bad actors could undermine public trust and worsen insecurity.
