Accra, Jan. 15, GNA – The National Council for Pop Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has denied allegations of introducing LGBTQ-related content into Ghana’s Senior High School (SHS) curriculum.
It added that no such content exists within the officially approved national curriculum used in SHS national curriculum.
A press release signed by Professor Samuel O. Ofori Bekoe, the Director-General, NaCCA, copied to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, said the controversy stemmed from confusion between the national curriculum and teacher manuals, which served different purposes in curriculum delivery.
It noted that the curriculum was the official policy document that contained areas of learning for students, whereas the teacher manuals were supplementary instructional guides meant to support teachers and not compulsory for curriculum delivery.
The statement said teachers could fully implement the approved curriculum without relying on any specific teacher manual.
“These manuals do not constitute the curriculum itself, and their use is optional; teachers may deliver the approved curriculum without relying
on these specific guides,” it said.
The statement stressed the need for Ghana’s curriculum to remain anchored in the country’s socio-cultural values, constitutional principles, and child-centred development goals.
