Mahama gov’t’s commitment to CRC proposals a positive signal

Mary Addah, Executive Director of Transparency International Ghana, has commended the Mahama administration for its commitment to implementing proposals from the Constitution Review Committee (CRC), saying the move sends a positive signal.

The CRC, on December 22, 2024, presented its report to President John Dramani Mahama, making key recommendations including extending the presidential term from four to five years, introducing a 30-year age limit for the presidency, and prohibiting Members of Parliament from simultaneously serving as Ministers, among others.

Speaking during a roundtable discussion on John Mahama 2.0: Thematic Assessment of Year One on Channel One TV, hosted by Bernard Avle, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Mary Addah said that even though the government’s White Paper on the CRC report has not yet been released, the administration’s commitment to implementation is encouraging.

“The novel recommendations made by the CRC, and also the President’s response to the presentation of the report, were very positive,” she said.

“Even though we haven’t seen the government’s White Paper, the commitment that there will be an implementation committee is a good signal,” she added.

Mary Addah highlighted the importance of sustained public engagement to ensure that the CRC’s recommendations are effectively implemented for the benefit of Ghanaians.

“It means that all of us, civil society, the media, should continue to follow this process to ensure that all recommendations put in place are working for our good,” she urged.
