PM chairs first meeting of National Agriculture and Food Security Council

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that agriculture was the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and had the potential to drive economic growth in the short term.

Chairing the first meeting of the National Agriculture and Food Security Council in Islamabad, the prime minister said that the livestock sector also had considerable potential to boost the country’s exports.

He said the government was taking steps to increase exports of Pakistani halal meat.

Shehbaz Sharif praised the Sindh chief minister for working tirelessly to promote farmers’ development and improve the facilities available to them.

He said the federal government would extend all possible support to the provinces to promote agricultural development.
