Some suspects arrested by National Security in Tamale
National Security has arrested 45 foreign nationals in Tamale, Northern Region, as part of efforts to tackle cross-border crime.
The arrested persons include 12 Ivorians, 31 Burkinabé and two Liberians, who were arrested at various communities across the Tamale metropolis.
RSM Adam Mohammed, the Northern Regional Security Liaison Officer for National Security, who confirmed the arrests to journalists, said the suspects were lured into believing they were en route to Europe through Ghana.
“We tried to profile them and realised that some were brought here with the hope of travelling abroad, while others were brought into the country to participate in the QNET recruitment scheme,” he said.
He noted that investigations indicate many more people remain in the system, adding that authorities are working tirelessly to rescue them.
“Those we have arrested are 45, but investigations revealed there are more, so we are digging deep to get the rest of them,” he said.
RSM Mohammed disclosed that after profiling and documentation, the detainees were handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for onward action.
He urged the public to remain calm and assured them that National Security is on top of the situation to ensure safe communities.
