Gyakie Clarifies Her KNUST SRC Withdrawal: “I Don’t Care About Boos—Only Professionalism Matters”

Ghanaian singer Gyakie, known for her chart-topping hit “Something”, has addressed the recent controversy surrounding her withdrawal from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) SRC Week event. In a series of public statements, she clarified that her decision was not driven by fear of audience reactions but by concerns over event organization, professionalism, and due process.

A Stand for Professionalism Over Public Perception

Gyakie, who was initially confirmed as a headliner for the event scheduled on July 25, 2026, announced her withdrawal hours before the performance. Her explanation, shared via Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), emphasized the importance of proper planning and execution in live entertainment.

“I don’t care if anyone booed me then or now, but due process must be followed, and the right thing must be done to ensure that artists give out their best,” she stated. Her words underscored a deeper commitment to maintaining industry standards, even at the risk of public criticism.

The Role of Event Coordination in Live Performances

Gyakie’s stance highlights a growing trend among artists who prioritize logistical precision over mere attendance. She argued that poor organization—such as inadequate stage setup, technical failures, or mismanagement of artist logistics—can severely impact a performance’s quality.

“Professionalism should never be compromised,” she asserted. “Proper planning and coordination are essential for every performance.” Her remarks reflect a broader industry concern: artists are increasingly holding organizers accountable for ensuring seamless events that allow them to deliver their best work.

Public Criticism vs. Artist Integrity

Despite the backlash and speculation that followed her withdrawal, Gyakie remained unfazed. She dismissed concerns about potential booing or negative audience reactions, asserting that her primary focus remains fan satisfaction.

“I’m committed to giving my fans my best and always leaving them with a memorable experience,” she said. Her words suggest that while she values her audience’s support, she refuses to compromise her standards for the sake of attendance.

The Broader Implications for Ghana’s Entertainment Industry

Gyakie’s decision has sparked discussions about artist-organizer dynamics in Ghana’s music scene. Many performers now demand clear contracts, proper compensation, and guaranteed event conditions before committing to appearances. Her withdrawal serves as a case study in holding organizers accountable for delivering on promises.

Additionally, her stance reinforces the idea that artists are not just performers but brand ambassadors who must uphold professionalism. By prioritizing logistical integrity over public pressure, Gyakie sets a precedent for future collaborations, encouraging organizers to take event planning more seriously.

What’s Next for Gyakie and KNUST SRC?

While Gyakie has not ruled out future performances at KNUST, her withdrawal has prompted questions about how the SRC will address her concerns. Will organizers implement better planning mechanisms? Will they ensure artist-friendly conditions for upcoming events?

For now, Gyakie remains focused on her music and her fans, leaving the door open for reconciliation—on her terms. Her message is clear: artists deserve respect, and professionalism should never be sacrificed for attendance.

As the Ghanaian entertainment industry continues to evolve, Gyakie’s stance serves as a reminder that true success lies not just in performing, but in performing well.
