President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a five-member Bawku Revitalisation Committee, setting the stage for the implementation of a GH¢1 billion fund aimed at rebuilding infrastructure and restoring economic activity in the conflict-affected area.

The committee, chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, includes Bawku Central Member of Parliament Mahama Ayariga, the Tamapani Chief, HRM Cletus Abugre, Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga and Garu MP Anabah Winsum Thomas.

At the inauguration on Wednesday, August 26, President Mahama said the move follows the receipt of the Otumfuo Mediation Committee’s report in December 2025 and said relative calm is returning to the area.
He expressed concern over the disruption of essential services and development projects, including the posting of National Service and medical personnel to the area but is confident in the committee and charged its members to ensure that the revitalisation fund is managed with integrity and that communities across the Bawku area benefit from the investment.

However, President Mahama commended the security services for restoring calm at Bawku and its environs.

“The security services have remained firm in Bawku. I am happy to receive the reports that we no longer hear gunshots at night and that impunity has abated,” he said.
