Chairman Richard Oti-Aboagye, an aspirant for the position of National First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has outlined a comprehensive policy framework anchored on three key pillars: Experienced Leadership, Versatility and Welfare, as he seeks the support of party delegates ahead of the party’s internal elections.
Chairman Oti-Aboagye, who has served as the founding Chairman of the NPP Sweden Branch since its establishment in 2016, says his candidacy is driven by a commitment to strengthening party unity, enhancing collaboration across all levels of the party and contributing to the NPP’s efforts to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
According to him, the NPP is at a critical stage in its political journey and requires experienced leadership, strategic reorganisation, renewed unity and stronger engagement with its grassroots base both in Ghana and across the diaspora.
As part of his vision, Chairman Oti-Aboagye believes the office of the National First Vice Chairman should serve as a stabilising force within the party by supporting the National Chairman and promoting cohesion among stakeholders.
Drawing on nearly a decade of leadership within the party’s external structures, he has pledged to strengthen collaboration between national, regional, constituency and external branches while promoting internal unity and constructive engagement among party members.
He also intends to support effective conflict resolution and reconciliation efforts, enhance grassroots participation, strengthen branch structures and encourage strategic mobilisation towards the 2028 elections.
Chairman Oti-Aboagye describes himself as a versatile leader with broad experience spanning education, community engagement, diaspora politics, organisational administration and international leadership.
He argues that the role of National First Vice Chairman requires more than loyalty and strategic thinking, stressing that it also demands flexibility, dependability and the ability to execute assignments on behalf of the party leadership when required.
As an educationist with international exposure, he says he is well-positioned to contribute to policy discussions, stakeholder engagement, diaspora relations, youth mobilisation, communication strategy, organisational development and strategic coordination.
Under this pillar, he aims to help reposition the NPP as a more youth-driven and innovation-oriented political party that is responsive to emerging social and political realities.
He also seeks to make the party more attractive to professionals, students, civil society organisations, the diaspora, floating voters and first-time voters.
Chairman Oti-Aboagye maintains that while the NPP must evolve to meet contemporary challenges, it should remain firmly grounded in its core values of democracy, freedom, development, and the rule of law.
A major component of his campaign is the welfare of party members. He argues that the NPP is not only a political organisation but also a social institution built on loyalty, sacrifice, relationships and collective support.
He has therefore pledged to advocate stronger recognition and support systems for grassroots executives, polling station officers, youth activists, volunteers, serial callers and members of external branches whose contributions sustain the party.
His proposals include improved communication channels between party leadership and members, greater inclusion of external branches in decision-making processes, capacity-building opportunities for executives and young members, and the consideration of reward and welfare support mechanisms for active party members.
According to Chairman Oti-Aboagye, members who feel valued, respected, and supported are more motivated and committed to the success of the party.
Chairman Oti-Aboagye says his candidacy is rooted in the values of unity, strength, and renewal.
He insists that his campaign is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to contribute meaningfully to rebuilding confidence within the party, strengthening its structures, empowering members and positioning the NPP for electoral success in 2028 and beyond.
He expressed confidence that through experienced leadership, versatility, and a renewed focus on welfare, the party can emerge stronger, more united and better prepared for future political challenges.
