Commissioned Arterial Road, Abuja (Obafemi Awolowo Way)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for delivering the Dape District Section of Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) in Abuja within the stipulated timeline.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, Tinubu said the project, which stretches from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III, was conceived, funded and completed by his administration after it was awarded to Julius Berger in October 2024 with a 15-month deadline.

“I commend Julius Berger for matching speed with world-class engineering and treating this assignment with the seriousness it deserves,” the President said, noting that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure rather than allowing projects to linger for years.

Tinubu said infrastructure remains a key measure of national development and reaffirmed his administration’s determination to make the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) a capital city befitting Nigeria’s status.

He also praised FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike for driving infrastructure delivery in the territory, describing him as “the engine of execution” whose leadership has produced visible results.

In his remarks, Wike commended Julius Berger for its reliability and professionalism, noting that the company consistently delivers on its commitments.

The minister disclosed that the inauguration formed part of activities marking the President’s third anniversary in office, adding that the FCT Administration would commission projects for 31 days this year, compared to nine days in 2024 and 19 days in 2025.

Earlier, Managing Director of Julius Berger, Dr Peer Lubasch, described the project as a critical infrastructure that would improve mobility, enhance security and boost economic activities within the capital city.

According to him, the road will ease traffic congestion around Life Camp Junction and improve connectivity for residents of Dape, Gwarinpa, Kado, Karsana, Idu, Gwagwa, Jiwa and neighbouring communities.

Lubasch said the project involved the construction of about four kilometres of dual carriageway, a two-span river bridge, extensive drainage infrastructure, culverts, street lighting and utility crossings.

He added that the project underscores Julius Berger’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure while contributing to the rapid development of the FCT.
