One dead, fire officer hospitalised after bee attack at Quarry Site inSokode Gbogame

One person has been confirmed dead, while a fire officer is receiving treatment at the hospital after a swarm of bees attacked a worker at a quarry site along the Akrofu road on Monday evening, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.

The Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS told Stone City Radio that the Ho Municipal Fire Service received a distress call reporting that a man had been attacked by bees at the quarry site.

Five fire officers were immediately dispatched from the Ho station to rescue the victim and contain the situation.

However, the operation took a dangerous turn during the intervention. While the team was attempting to secure the area and assist the victim, a second swarm of bees reportedly emerged and attacked the firefighters, disrupting the rescue effort and putting the officers at risk.

The leader of the fire team sustained injuries in the process and has been admitted to Mater Ecclesia Hospital at Sokode Gbogame for treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed his condition.

In a further update, the GNFS Regional PRO confirmed that the initial victim, who was attacked at the quarry, later died. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of the family.

The incident has raised concerns about safety conditions at quarry sites and the risks faced by emergency responders during rescue operations. Authorities are yet to determine what triggered the bee attack.

The Ghana National Fire Service is expected to issue a full report as investigations continue.
