The Lagos State Police Command has unveiled a special tactical security outfit known as the “Command Sweepers Squad” to address rising insecurity and criminal activities in Ikorodu and surrounding communities.
The initiative was introduced under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, following growing concerns and public outcry over criminal incidents in parts of the Ikorodu axis.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi on Monday, the squad is a temporary intervention force established to restore public confidence and improve security within the area.
The statement explained that the unit comprises officers drawn from various tactical formations, including the Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, Police Mobile Force units, as well as personnel from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
The squad has been stationed in Ijede to allow rapid deployment and effective response operations across Ikorodu and adjoining areas.
To enhance operational efficiency, the police command also equipped the squad with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
“The Squad has been strategically deployed to identify black spots and criminal hideouts to carry out intelligence-led operations, raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements,” the statement said.
The command assured residents that the operations would be carried out professionally and in accordance with the rule of law, while urging members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
