Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has been discharged from the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on Saturday, February 14, 2026, following treatment for injuries sustained in a road traffic accident two days earlier. The Minister is recovering and has been advised to rest, according to a statement from his office.

The accident occurred on Thursday, February 12, 2026, on the Bolgatanga Tumu Road in the Upper West Region. Iddrisu and Deputy Minister for Communications and Digital Technology Mohammed Adams Sukparu were travelling with their teams to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education when the crash happened.

The statement released by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister for Education, confirmed that Iddrisu is in good spirits. The Minister expressed gratitude to the medical team at 37 Military Hospital and to those who offered prayers and support during his treatment.

Both ministers were initially airlifted from Tumu to Wa before being transported to Accra for further medical attention. All members of the convoy received medical care and were reported to be in stable condition following the incident.

The 37 Military Hospital, located on the main road between Kotoka International Airport and central Accra, is the largest military hospital in Ghana and serves both military personnel and the general public. The facility was established in 1941 and is recognised for its trauma and emergency response capabilities.

Iddrisu, who represents Tamale South constituency, was appointed Education Minister in January 2025 under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration. He previously served as Minority Leader in Parliament and has held various ministerial positions including Minister for Communications and Minister for Trade.

The Ministry of Education has not announced any changes to the Minister’s official schedule following his discharge.
