During his visit to Kenya last week, FIVB president Fabio Azevedo led the ground breaking ceremony for a modern volleyball court for one of the country’s leading acedemies, Githurai Kimbo Academy, a facility meant to advance the sport in the country.

Supported by the FIVB Volleyball Foundation, the Academy is creating opportunities for 216 young people, aged 5 to 18, through volleyball training, mentorship and life skills development, alongside 41 education scholarships.
The new court is meant to support the academy’s efforts to advance grassroots volleyball, education and personal development within the local community, with more success stories from the academy that produced current Wafalme Stars assistant captain, Brian Kamonde, expected.
“All of the kids, coaches and volunteers here are part of the Global Volleyball Movement, and each and every one of them is as important as the best players in the world because they are an essential part of our sport. Without them, we won’t have anyone playing volleyball in the future,” Azevedo said during his visit.
The president maintains that volleyball has the power to bring people together, adding that FIVB intends to share values of volleyball all over the world and Githurai is a great example of this.
