The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has said that Nigeria’s security challenges have evolved beyond isolated criminal activities into interconnected networks involving terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cybercrime and other forms of organised crime.

Speaking at a security summit, the IGP noted that criminal groups increasingly collaborate across regions and sectors, making it more difficult for individual agencies to tackle security threats effectively.

He stressed that the changing nature of insecurity requires stronger coordination among security agencies, intelligence sharing and the adoption of modern technology-driven policing strategies.

Disu explained that organised criminal networks now operate across multiple fronts, exploiting technological advancements and complex support systems to evade law enforcement efforts.

He said addressing these challenges demands a unified national and regional approach involving security institutions, government agencies and relevant stakeholders.

The police chief reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with local and international partners to combat emerging security threats and enhance public safety across the country.

He also called for sustained investment in intelligence gathering, technology and capacity building to enable security agencies to respond more effectively to the evolving security landscape. According to the IGP, defeating organised crime and restoring lasting peace will require collective action, innovation and a coordinated response from all stakeholders.
