The Attorney-General should credit his compatriots with a modicum of respect.
To serve us political pranks as we reflect soberly about the future of our troubled Ghana after an inexplicable quashing of Sedina’s case is to belittle our intelligence insultingly.
As part of the resetting agenda of President John Mahama, detaching himself from it by announcing an appeal is for us a drab joke which would not take away the hurt the judicial reversal has inflicted upon us as a people and the justice administration.
We would ignore the derision in there and tell the Attorney-General to stop pretending as if he is unaware that Sedina would be set free after all the political noise. As Chief Counsel to the government, no judicial manoeuvre would be negotiated on his blind side unless he seeks to tell us that he is not living up to his billing, which we doubt.
As part of a reset Ghana, Sedina’s case is not unusual and, in the coming days, many developments would be witnessed which would further the cause of the reset agenda and Ghana would be the loser, dazed and fractured beyond recognition. That is where the reset agenda has brought us.
What has become of the anti-corruption refrain which was constantly trumpeted, even more pronounced before the last elections by regime change advocates? Where is the so-called project to recover all loots when this low hanging fruit of a clear case of a convicted Sedina over thievery from the state kitty is set free by another court? Couldn’t this have provided an opportunity for the state to underscore its commitment to fighting corruption?
By this latest development, officialdom has sent an ambiguous message that public kitty thievery is not politically iniquitous, hence the granting of freedom to Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.
Sedina’s arrival, the non-announcement of her arrival until the US broke the news and her 15-day stay away from prison, not forgetting her so-called transfer to Nsawam Prison, have all punctured the integrity of the deliberately choreographed story, the judicial process et al.
We do not blame the many sceptics who think that Sedina did not pass a night at Nsawam Prison as we were told. Whatever happened and transmitted to the public was part of a setting agenda.
Here is to therefore tell the Attorney-General that the Animal Farm story as told by George Orwell is still fresh in our memories, and that while some animals will enjoy exemption from orders, others will not. Let Sedina enjoy her freedom while it lasts, for tomorrow will surely bring a new King who knows not the reset agenda.
This certainly is not how to grow a country as it gives room for people to lose confidence in the institutions of state. If we could, we would have had the flags of our troubled country flown at half-mast, to mark the dent done our country. One step forward, two steps backwards.
