Twenty policemen who were involved in last week’s interception of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at the Tema Harbour and the arrest of 10 suspects in separate criminals have been promoted by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The promotions were announced on Monday by the Ghana Police Service even before a formal confirmation that the substances were indeed cocaine was made.
The personnel were recognised for their roles in the interception of the suspected cocaine at the Tema Harbour.
Others promoted were those who made the arrest of six suspects in connection with the theft of GH¢300,000 from a victim along the Portor Kawempe stretch of the Kintampo Buipe highway on July, 19, 2026.
The other group included those who arrested four suspects in relation to a robbery syndicate at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area of the Western Region.
The operations were carried out in the Bono East, Tema and Western Central Police Regions.
Among those promoted are Chief Inspectors Bede Nwinbomeh and Joe Tetteh, General Sergeants Elijah Ndaga Yinimi and Kaifan Sulemanna, General Corporals Owusu Ansah Evans and Tansang Jonathan, and General Lance Corporals Osei Christopher Bonny, Kyei Francis, Ofori Francis, Anim Dominic and Asante Isaac.
General Constables Adam Bakari Alhassan and Bakai Mark were also promoted.
The detective officers promoted are Detective Chief Inspector Frank Dzah, Detective Inspectors Edem Ametowoga, Abroso and Vincent Dankwah, and Detective Sergeants Salifu Yakubu and Samuel Mordzifa.
Six other personnel were also promoted to their next ranks for their roles in the operations.
Chief Inspectors Nwinbomeh and Tetteh were also granted automatic entry into the Police Academy.
The Police Service said that the promotions were in recognition of the officers’ professionalism and courage in combating crime.
