Hohoe (V/R), July 7, GNA – The Hohoe Municipal Command of the Ghana National Fire Service, has conducted fire safety inspections at some gas and petrol filling stations to assess their fire preparedness.
The exercise conducted at Gbi Avega, Gbi Wegbe, Gbi Kledzo, Gbi Atabu, Gbi Kpoeta and the Hohoe Central business areas, also led to the education of attendants.
DO III Bismark Hosu-Porbley, Hohoe Municipal Fire Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that a total of 17 stations were visited to give the fire personnel the chance to assess fire safety preparedness of the facilities and attendants.
He said fire extinguishers and smoke detectors were inspected as well as fire certifications while attendants were also examined on the use of the fire extinguisher.
DO III Hosu-Porbley said the fire personnel educated staff of the facilities visited on fire prevention, emergency response, and the proper use of firefighting equipment.
He said the assessment revealed that some attendants although trained, still found it difficult to use the fire extinguisher.
DO III Hosu-Porbley said the Service would support retraining attendants so they could be courageous in handling fire equipment.
He said all the stations visited had their fire certifications active, which was commendable and called on those that had few months to the expiration of their certifications to ensure they were renewed.
DO III Hosu-Porbley said they were committed to continuous fire safety awareness and risk reduction to safeguard lives and property in the Municipality.
