Chief Ajose Abejoye, prominent Lagos lawyer, has started a major legal battle to rescue the stolen democratic mandate of Honourable Tunde Pratt and to protect the people of Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency.

Abejoye filed a crucial lawsuit at the Federal High Court on behalf of Honourable Pratt, the rightful, overwhelmingly popular winner of the primary election whose hard-earned victory was unjustly taken away.

The suit names the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as key defendants.

The case has been assigned to Honorable Justice Aluko of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos Division.

The legal action follows a heartbreaking betrayal of party members and democratic principles.

On 29 May 2026, Hon. Pratt won the hearts and votes of the delegates. He became the validly nominated candidate for the Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency in an election fully monitored and certified by INEC.

However, the NDC leadership shockingly swapped Pratt’s name with one Tunji Sanni, stealing his mandate and silencing the voices of thousands of everyday citizens who believed in him.

In an emotional message to his followers, Honourable Pratt expressed his deep gratitude and shared his pain over the situation.

“My heart breaks not for myself but for the beautiful, hardworking people of Lagos Mainland whose hopes were traded away in the dark,” Hon. Pratt said.

“You stood by me in the sun, you cast your votes with joy, and we won a clean victory on 29 May. To see our shared dream secretly stolen by a few individuals is deeply painful. But I promise you this: I will not give up on you. We are taking this fight to the court, not just to get my name back on the ballot, but to prove that your voices matter and that your votes cannot be erased by backroom deals. Please stay peaceful, stay hopeful, and keep believing in justice.”; he added.

In the court filings, lead counsel Chief Ajose Abejoye exposes the development as an illegal and devastating breach of the Electoral Act.

The lawsuit passionately appeals to Honorable Justice Aluko to right this deep wrong by declaring the swap illegal, null, and void. It seeks to compel INEC to immediately restore Hon. Pratt’s name to its rightful place on the ballot so he can represent the good people of the Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency.

Speaking on the development, Barr. Kaosara Afariogun, one of the lawyers at Ajose Abejoye Legal, said, “We are standing up against a cruel injustice.”

The lady lawyer continued, “Honourable Pratt played by the rules and won fair and square. To see his dedication and the mandates of everyday people stolen by a secret political plot is unacceptable. This lawsuit is about defending a good leader, standing up for fairness, and ensuring that powerful backroom deals cannot crush the honest vote of the people.”

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi has formally received the suit. Supporters of Hon. Pratt are eagerly waiting as a date for the initial hearing before Honorable Justice Aluko is expected to be announced soon.
