Yamin says President Mahama would fit leadership in US, UK or Norway
The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has said that John Dramani Mahama is better suited to lead countries like the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom (UK) or Norway than Ghana.
According to him, Ghana requires a leader who is firm and uncompromising in enforcing discipline.
In a video shared by Promise Dumevi on social media on June 12, 2026, he argued that Ghana’s current leadership style does not match what the country needs at this stage of development.

Yammin further acknowleged that while Ghana’s current president is “a fine gentleman”, he believes leadership suitability should be assessed differently across countries.
“The president we have today is a fine gentleman, but Donald Trump should have been president of Ghana and Mahama should have been president of the US.
“I have always said that we have a president who is not supposed to lead Ghana. He should have been a president of either the US or Norway; he would have been ideal there. He (Mahama) is not the kind of president we should have in Ghana,” he said.
Yamin maintained that Ghana requires tougher oversight and faster enforcement of anti-corruption measures, especially from state institutions responsible for investigations.
He noted that delays in prosecutions under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) are fuelling public frustration.
“You need a president who can instruct EOCO to speed up corruption investigations,” he said.
Yamin also questioned the handling of corruption-related issues, insisting that more investigations should be carried out into past government programmes.
“Look at how people are being treated in terms of corruption. There are a lot of programmes by the previous government that can be investigated… everybody is silent… Is it because it’s eight years down the line?” he questioned.
Yamin said Ghana’s governance challenges stem from what he described as a lack of discipline in society and institutions.
“So, the Ghanaian on the road is not disciplined. This country needs discipline. We want a leader who will bring progress,” he added.
