The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) has forecast thunderstorms and rain of varying intensity across many parts of the country on Thursday, June 11, 2026, with late-afternoon storms likely to affect forest and transition zones.
According to the 24-hour impact-based forecast issued by the Central Analysis and Forecasting Office, the morning will see persistent thunderstorms or rain in many regions. Mist or fog may also occur in a few places across southern Ghana, which could reduce visibility.
Later in the day, a mixture of sun and clouds will be observed. However, from late afternoon into the night, thunderstorms or rain are likely to affect some areas within the forest and transition zones.
Regional breakdown
In the coastal areas, Takoradi and Axim face the highest probability of thunderstorms in the morning, with a 60 per cent chance of occurrence. Accra, Kasoa, Cape Coast and Koforidua are expected to experience rain with a 40 per cent probability in the morning. Aflao will be mostly cloudy.
In the forest zone, Kumasi, Obuasi and Akim Oda are forecast to have a 40 per cent chance of rain in the morning, with thunderstorms likely in the evening. Ho and Koforidua will see sunny intervals in the afternoon before evening thunderstorms.
The transition zone cities of Sunyani, Techiman and Goaso are forecast to have a 40 per cent chance of thunderstorms in the morning and again in the evening, with sunny intervals in between.
In the northern sector, Bolgatanga and Nalerigu face a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms in the morning, the highest in the country. Tamale and Yendi have a 40 per cent chance of morning rain, with sunny periods expected later. Wa faces a 40 per cent chance of thunderstorms in the morning.
Temperature ranges
Minimum temperatures across the country will range from 22 degrees Celsius in the coastal and forest zones to 23 degrees in the northern sector. Maximum temperatures will range from 30 degrees in parts of the coast to 34 degrees in the transition and northern zones.
Sea conditions
The state of the sea is forecast to be rough, with a level 2 warning issued. Fishermen and marine operators have been advised to exercise caution.
