Yesterday, HONOR hosted a launch event in Johannesburg for its latest foldable flagship phone – the HONOR Magic V6.
This device made its debut at MWC 26 in March this year, and now it is heading to South Africa, with it going on sale locally from 1st September 2026. Speaking to HONOR executives at the launch, Hypertext has been informed that Vodacom and Cell C will be the preferred channels at launch, with contract pricing starting from R1 599 per month on a 36-month contract.
The postpaid price of the device is recommended at R39 999.
Along with its thin 8.75mm (folded) body, the big selling point that HONOR is highlighting on this foldable is the battery life. Here, a massive 6 600mAh unit is present, which is impressive as it is considerably larger than any other foldable on the market locally, and even eclipses some standard flagship phones, too.
“At the heart of the HONOR Magic V6 is a large 6,660mAh HONOR Silicon-carbon Battery, the largest battery ever featured in a foldable smartphone supporting extended use of the device. The device also supports 80W Wired and 66W Wireless HONOR SuperCharge, giving users the flexibility to power up quickly and keep pace with demanding days,” noted HONOR in a release to Hypertext.
With the Magic V5 making a relatively splash-less debut in South Africa last year, HONOR is aiming to make a larger impression with its latest flagship foldable. With competitors like Samsung having also recently debuted new foldable hardware, it will be interesting to see which brand local consumers gravitate towards.
