Konko (E/R), June 11, GNA – The African Foundation for Climate Change and Sustainable Development (AFCCSD), in partnership with the Technology, Development, Education, Leadership and Sustainability (T-DELS) Foundation, has introduced schoolchildren to the Green Ghana Initiative to promote environmental sustainability practices.
The initiative seeks to inculcate green values in children through environmental education, awareness campaigns, literacy programmes, and the establishment of eco-gardens in schools.
Mr Francis Aforve, Executive Director of AFCCSD, launched the initiative at Konko M/A Junior High School in the Eastern Region, where he taught students practical ways to plant and nurture trees in their homes and communities. He emphasised the importance of individual action in protecting the environment.
He encouraged the students to become champions of environmental sustainability and climate action.
The programme also featured a tree-planting exercise involving students, teachers, and community members, providing participants with hands-on experience in environmental conservation.
Mr Mfah Amadu, Programmes Coordinator of AFCCSD, commended the school and its partners for their support in making the initiative successful.
He noted that the programme formed part of AFCCSD’s broader commitment to promoting environmental sustainability among young people.
Mr Amadu announced plans to replicate the initiative in other schools across Ghana to reach a wider audience and inspire more students to become environmental stewards.
