The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has provided financial assistance of GH₵15,000 each to families affected by the recent fire outbreak at the Accra Central Police Barracks, aimed at easing the immediate hardship of victims.

The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, disclosed the intervention on Friday, June 5, during a visit by Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to assess the extent of damage caused by the fire.

He explained that the cash support is intended to help affected families meet urgent needs such as clothing and basic necessities following the incident.

According to him, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly also contributed GH₵120,000 to support relief efforts, working in collaboration with the Interior Ministry and the Police Service.

“…We were able to extend together with the police about GH₵15,000 to each family for them to be able to buy some clothes. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly also gave GH₵120,000 to the police to further support,” he said.

He added that the distribution of funds was guided by an assessment-based approach to ensure fairness among affected households.

The fire, which broke out on the night of June 3, caused significant damage to structures at the Accra Central Police Barracks, prompting coordinated emergency response and relief interventions from state agencies.
