Calling South Africa’s purpose-driven entrepreneurs to enter

Opening today, this renowned initiative celebrates South Africa’s most authentic and resilient entrepreneurs under the powerful theme “My Pain. My Purpose. My Solution.”

In a country grappling with economic challenges such as high unemployment, rising costs, infrastructure constraints, and limited access to credit, many entrepreneurs are compelled by necessity to innovate. Nedbank Business Ignite 2026 honours founders whose business journeys originate from personal pain points and whose solutions have meaningful community impact.

This year’s theme is powerfully illustrated by the journeys of diverse South African entrepreneurs who have turned personal adversity into innovative business solutions. Consider the woman who, after struggling to find bras that were both supportive and stylish, designed a range that empowers women with confidence and comfort.

Or the devoted parent who, driven by the lack of accessible autism resources for their own child, developed tailored educational tools now benefiting countless families. Then there is the health-conscious innovator who, frustrated by unpalatable sugar-free drinks, crafted a product that not only satisfies the palate but promotes healthier lifestyles. These stories embody the very essence of “My Pain. My Purpose. My Solution”, demonstrating how lived experience ignites solutions that resonate far beyond individual hardship to serve broader communities.

Businesses with turnover between R1 million and R30 million are invited to enter via the competition’s newly enhanced website and entry form. This year also introduces an insightful podcast series hosted by esteemed business coach Thuli Magubane, who will continue mentoring participants to align their strategies for maximum impact.

Submission will be assessed on five criteria: authenticity of original story, problem solution fit, market validity and scalability, founder resilience and conviction, and social/community impact.

Fifteen finalists per station will be shortlisted and celebrated at two gala award evenings in July 2026. Each overall winner will receive R200,000 in cash and R200,000 worth of radio advertising on 702 or CapeTalk, amplifying their success nationwide.

Mzo Jojwana, Chief Content Officer at Primedia Broadcasting, reflected, “In a country where entrepreneurship often springs from deeply personal adversity, Nedbank Business Ignite 2026 offers a vital platform to honour those whose resilience transforms pain into purpose. This competition not only celebrates innovative solutions but also acknowledges the profound social ripples such ventures

create. We are privileged to share these stories that embody hope, tenacity, and transformative power, inspiring business leaders across South Africa.”

Alan Shannon, Executive of Nedbank’s Small Business Service, Private Wealth and Private Clients, elaborates that “South Africa’s entrepreneurs are some of the most resilient problem-solvers in the world. Behind many successful small businesses is a deeply personal story of perseverance, purpose, and innovation. Through Nedbank Business Ignite 2026, we are celebrating founders who have transformed real-life challenges into meaningful solutions that uplift communities and create economic opportunity. We are dedicated to enabling entrepreneurs to thrive through tangible support, strategic partnerships, access to funding, mentorship, and platforms that help amplify their businesses.’
