Nigerian skit maker cum singer, Lawal Michael Nasiru Bolaji, better known as Nasboi, has berated Nigerians over the pressure on celebrities to speak on issues concerning the country’s politics.
Naija News reports that Nasboi, in a post via his 𝕏 handle, called for more understanding toward celebrities who stay silent on political issues.
Nasbio cited how his colleague, cum Nollywood actor, Mr Macaroni, was harassed after speaking about the issue regarding the government, only to face mockery and insults afterwards.
He argued that not everyone dares to speak publicly and that people must accept it.
He added that just as some ordinary Nigerians avoid politics, some celebrities also prefer not to get involved, reminding his followers that celebrities are humans like everyone else.
He wrote, “People wey get sense, make we reason this matter. Una dey always drag celebrities for not speaking up, but make I remind una of Mr Macaroni. See how dem maltreat am just because he spoke up for everybody. Yet na still people mock am and insult am. You think say other celebrities no dey see all those things?
“No be everybody get mind to talk. You have to accept that. And make we no forget, just like some of una no dey interested in politics, na so some celebrities no like to involve politically. Celebrities are humans like you.”
