Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has informed its millions of Mobile Money subscribers that the long-standing convenience of free transfers from MoMo wallets to bank accounts will come to an end on June 1, 2026.
In a text message dispatched to customers on the evening of Monday, May 25, 2026, the company announced that all transfers from MoMo wallets to bank accounts will now attract a fee of 0.75 percent per transaction.
The charge, which is capped at GH₵5 per transfer, will apply regardless of whether the bank account belongs to the same individual who owns the MoMo wallet.
Previously, customers who transferred funds between their own registered MoMo wallet and their own bank account enjoyed the service at no cost. That window will close completely at the start of next month.

The text message explained the move as a necessary step to enable MTN to continue serving its user base more effectively. “From 1 June 2026, transfers from your MoMo Wallet to bank accounts will attract a fee of 0.75% per transaction, capped at GH₵5. This will help us continue to serve you better. Thank you for choosing MoMo,” the text read.
For the average customer, the new charge means that a transfer of GHS 100 to a bank account will incur a fee of 75 pesewas, while a transfer of GH₵667 or more will attract the maximum charge of GH₵5. The cap provides some relief for those moving larger sums, but the end of free cross-platform transfers marks a shift in MTN’s pricing structure for mobile financial services.
The new fee structure applies only to transfers from MoMo wallets to bank accounts. Transfers between two MoMo wallets, as well as cash-in and cash-out services at agents, remain subject to their existing separate charges.
