Bagbin to MPs: Pursue parliamentary debates with civility

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called on Members of Parliament to uphold discipline, punctuality, and civility in their engagements as the House resumes sitting from recess amid what he describes as a demanding legislative workload ahead.

Addressing the house on Thursday, May 21, Bagbin stressed the need for cooperation and mutual respect among members, noting that Parliament’s effectiveness would depend largely on teamwork and orderliness in the chamber.

He urged MPs from both the Majority and Minority sides to approach parliamentary business with a renewed sense of responsibility and commitment to national development.

“I will urge all members to be punctual. The workload, as we’ve been told ahead of us, is heavy and our effectiveness depends on discipline, mutual respect, and teamwork,” the Speaker stated.

Bagbin further encouraged lawmakers to pursue debates respectfully and constructively, saying civil discourse in Parliament would help enhance public confidence in the institution and promote national pride.
