The Nigeria Police Force has publicly disowned a circulating online notice promoting a so-called “AFRIPOL 2026” programme, describing it as unauthorized and misleading.
In an official disclaimer issued on X, by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid on Wednesday, the force stated clearly that it had no involvement in the purported event.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state categorically that it did not approve, endorse, or authorize the purported ‘AFRIPOL 2026’ programme currently being circulated online,” Placid said.
The force also warned against the misuse of the name AFRIPOL, noting that it refers only to the African Union’s official police cooperation mechanism, AFRIPOL.
“The Force also condemns the unauthorized use of the name ‘AFRIPOL’, which is globally recognized as the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), an official continental policing structure established under the African Union framework, and not a platform for private or unauthorized programmes,” he added.
The force further rejected any implication that the programme had the backing of senior police leadership or official branding.
“Furthermore, the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force did not authorise the use of the image of the Inspector-General of Police, the official logo, or the identity of the Force in connection with the said programme,” the disclaimer added.
The statement urged members of the public and organisations to steer clear of the publication and avoid any financial or promotional involvement.
“Members of the public and corporate organisations are advised to disregard the publication and refrain from any form of sponsorship, payment, or engagement relating to the said event.”
