The First Lady of Kwara State and founder of the Ajike People Support Centre, Olufolake Abdulrazaq, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, received the British Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Obe, at the Government House in Ilorin.
The deputy high commissioner spent three days engaging with key stakeholders, including the governor, Abdulrasaq; and the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
She also engaged with young innovators, civil society and religious leaders.
During the visit, Abdulrazaq highlighted the state government’s efforts in promoting inclusive development and improving the wellbeing of residents.
Speaking during the meeting, the First Lady said the visit underscored the longstanding ties between Nigeria and the UK and the need for stronger cooperation in critical sectors. She also stressed the need for stronger collaboration in areas that directly impact citizens, particularly women and youths.
“We are particularly encouraged by opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas that directly impact the lives of our people, especially women, young people, healthcare, education, economic empowerment and community development,” she said.
She further highlighted programmes by her office and the Ajike People Support Centre aimed at supporting vulnerable residents and empowering women and youths.”
In her remarks, Obe commended the administration the governor for what she described as gender inclusive governance.
She also described the relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom as steadfast, while acknowledging the contributions of over 500,000 Nigerians living in the UK to economic growth, cultural exchange and development initiatives in both countries.
