Kenyan media personality Kalondu Musyimi has emerged as one of the standout winners at the Africa Golden Awards 2026, taking home the Top African Showbiz Reporter award after outperforming some of the continent’s most influential entertainment journalists and presenters.

The announcement, made on May 3, 2026, marks a defining moment in Musyimi’s fast-rising career and a significant win for Kenya’s entertainment media industry.

The Top African Showbiz Reporter category was one of the most competitive at this year’s Africa Golden Awards, featuring a list of high-profile nominees drawn from across the continent’s entertainment and media landscape.

Alongside Musyimi, nominees included: Nigeria’s Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, known for high-profile reality TV hosting. Linda Ikeji, one of Africa’s most influential entertainment bloggers.

Pearl Thusi, a prominent South African actress and presenter.

Joselyn Dumas, a respected Ghanaian media personality. Zambia’s Lil Ommy and D’Jaro Arungu. Ghana’s Ameyaw Debrah and Peace Hyde. Nigeria’s Nancy Isime, Noble Igwe, and BellaNaija

Musyimi’s rise has been anything but accidental. She began her media journey behind the camera as a photography assistant before transitioning into broadcasting.

Her early breakthrough came through radio, where she introduced a gossip-driven segment that quickly gained attention for its humour and relatability.

That format eventually paved the way for her signature interviewing style—fast-paced, direct, and highly shareable.

At entertainment platform Mpasho, she became widely known for her “quick-fire” celebrity interviews, which often went viral across social media.

The style resonated with younger audiences, blending entertainment news with a conversational tone that felt accessible and unfiltered.

Musyimi’s influence has expanded steadily beyond digital entertainment reporting. She has appeared across several platforms, including Teen Republic on NTVBeats Plug on TV47

In March 2026, she made a major professional leap by joining the national broadcaster Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, where she now hosts the rebranded entertainment show Club 1 Xtra.

The Africa Golden Awards is a major platform that celebrates excellence across media, entertainment, leadership, and creative industries. This years edition was hosted by Azziad.

It brings together influential personalities from across Africa and is widely seen as a benchmark for continental recognition.
