Richard Nii Armah Quaye aka RNAQ
Lawyers representing Joana Quaye, ex-wife of businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye, popularly known as RNAQ, have criticised him over what they describe as prejudicial comments meant to pollute the minds of the public in the ongoing legal proceedings over their dissolved marriage.
The lawyers, in a statement, said comments made by the businessman in an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso on ‘The Delay Show’, “are all substantially untrue.”
According to the statement signed by former Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, “the allegations also unfairly castigated the reputation and integrity of our client, Joana Quaye.”
RNAQ and Joana Quaye have been locked in a bitter divorce battle for the past four years.
A High Court delivered its judgment in January this year and awarded a lump sum of GH¢300,000 to Joana Quaye when she sought for an amount of GH¢50 million.
Her lawyers have since appealed against what she describes as “strange” judgment by the High Court.
The notice of appeal filed by her new lawyers, from Dame & Partners, avers that despite the evidence led at trial to show that Richard Nii Armah Quaye established his famous company, Quick Credit & Investment Micro-Credit Limited (renamed Bills Micro Credit Limited) with Joana Quaye as shareholder, out of which he built his wealth and established numerous other companies, the judge granted to the ex-wife only one-third share of a house at Dansoman, GH¢300,000 as financial provision and GH¢5,000 to be paid by RNAQ each month for the upkeep of all the three children.
RNAQ during ‘The Delay Show’ urged the public to disregard claims by his ex-wife, Joana Quaye, that she contributed to his success as a businessman.
“Everything you have heard are untrue. They are orchestrated, deliberate attempt to attack me, to succumb and get me on my knees because I am building a brand for myself, and this is what they can use to defame me,” he stated.
Lawyers Fire Back
Her lawyers, in a response, denied the allegations made against her, noting that the fact of the marriage between the parties in 2010 soon after RNAQ’s return from a short stay in the United Kingdom in 2009, at a time that he was unemployed and had none of the properties he owns now, is a matter of public record and cannot be changed by a self-serving ex-post facto interview on ‘The Delay Show’.
It indicated that the record of the joint establishment of Quick Credit & Investment Micro-Credit Company Limited in 2011 by the couple after their marriage, with both Richard Nii Armah Quaye and Joana Quaye being the original shareholders, “the subsequent secret and illegal transfer of Joana Quaye’s shares by Richard Nii Armah Quaye without the knowledge of our client, the use of Quick Credit to acquire properties and set up other companies, are also matters of public record and documented in court proceedings.”
“We consider this as an effort to unfairly prejudice the minds of the public against our client and undermine and impede a fair administration of justice in the case.”
The statement further noted that the appeal filed by Joana Quaye was duly served on Richard Nii Armah Quaye about two weeks ago, with the record of appeal subsequently settled in accordance with the rules of court.
“Mr. Quaye’s illicit motive to obstruct the course of justice with the publication of prejudicial statements in the media is all too glaring,” it stated.
It also indicated that Joana Quaye, will continue to maintain her silence and place her faith in the justice system of Ghana in the hope that she will get justice for the wrongs and abuse inflicted on her by Richard Nii Armah Quaye, as well as an equitable distribution of all the properties acquired during the marriage between the parties, as required under the laws of Ghana.
“We entreat the public to disregard the wild and unfounded claims of “richness before marriage” made by Richard Nii Armah Quaye (highlighted by his claim of alleged ownership of a VW Passat), as well as the attacks on the reputation of our client, as a mere publicity stunt. Joana Quaye will surely get justice for the wrongs and abuses she has suffered one fine day,” it added.
