Emmanuel Ankomah – General Manager of ECG, Tema Region.

The Tema Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has spent GH¢13,079,669 on transformer replacements from the last quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026.

Mr Emmanuel Ankomah, General Manager of ECG, Tema Region, announced this during an interaction with the media at the ECG Nungua District Office.

Providing a breakdown of the expenditure, he said GH¢9,379,765 was used to replace 32 transformers in the last quarter of 2025, while GH¢3,699,903 covered the replacement of 22 transformers in the first quarter of 2026.

Mr Ankomah explained that the replacements were necessitated by several factors, including vandalism by unknown persons, which rendered some transformers unusable.

He further noted that unauthorised interference by some community members, particularly the switching of phases had contributed to overloading, often resulting in transformer failures.

He cautioned that such actions were illegal and could lead to prosecution if perpetrators were apprehended.

Another cause, he said, was damage from vehicular accidents, where vehicles collide with installations, leading to extensive and irreparable damage.

Mr Ankomah appealed to the public, community members, and local leaders to support efforts to safeguard ECG infrastructure to ensure a stable power supply.

He also commended community leaders who promptly report outages, enabling swift response to faults.
