India’s clean energy firm issues $34 million guarantee to back South African solar expansion

The company said the guarantee was disclosed on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Regulations. It is linked to an additional working capital facility extended by Nedbank Limited to Sterling and Wilson Engineering (Pty) Ltd, a step-down subsidiary operating in the South African solar market.

According to the filing, the guarantee serves as a non-fund-based working capital arrangement tied to the execution of solar projects in South Africa. It provides financial backing to the subsidiary without immediate cash outflow from the parent company, while strengthening access to credit from international lenders.

SWREL said the transaction complies with SEBI regulations and is conducted on an arm’s length basis. It also confirmed that the promoter and the promoter group have no direct or indirect interest in the arrangement, which will be recorded as a contingent liability on its balance sheet.

Such guarantees are commonly used to help subsidiaries access credit facilities in international markets, particularly where lenders require additional security for project finance in capital-intensive renewable energy developments.

The move underscores SWREL’s continued expansion into African renewable energy markets, where demand for grid-scale solar projects is rising amid efforts to diversify energy supply and attract private capital into infrastructure development across the continent.

The company is expected to pursue further engineering, procurement, and construction opportunities across Southern Africa as utilities and independent power producers accelerate clean energy deployment in line with regional decarbonisation goals and infrastructure investment frameworks.
