Ho, March 26, GNA – Keta, the ancient coastal town in the Volta Region is set to host a four-day photo exhibition dubbed, “Images of Keta,” showcasing its rich history and cultural heritage.

The exhibition which will take place from April 03 to April 06, 2026, at the Keta Municipal Assembly Hall, aims to highlight Keta’s cosmopolitan past, its notable personalities, and the impact of sea erosion on the town.

Images of Keta Foundation, organisers of the event in a press release on Thursday, made available to Ghana News Agency, said through photographs, visitors would enjoy a glimpse of the town’s golden era, from early European contacts to the 1980s, when sea erosion made Keta a pale shadow of its former glory.

It said the exhibition would feature images of notable Keta personalities, including fishermen, traders, farmers, teachers, goldsmiths, drivers, shop owners, chemists, doctors, nurses, lawyers, judges, soldiers, police, prison officers, “kete” weavers/merchants, and priests whose contributions put Keta on the world map.

“Keta, the cosmopolitan town and district attracted people from all over in its glory days. Like a magnet it drew people to itself from Europe, South America, the Caribbean, the Middle East (mostly Syria and Lebanon), and of course West Africa – Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Niger, Liberia and Sierra Leone among others. Memories of these human interactions are found in their many descendants who call Keta home.”

The release said the exhibition which would be held annually, did not only aimed to tell Keta’s history in pictures but also help to inspire present and future generations by reminding them of Keta’s glorious past, and calling on them to help make Keta great again, if not greater.

“Join Keta, this Easter as it celebrates its glorious past and inspires the future. Come feast your eyes on the grand, memorable, unforgettable images of Keta,” it called for patronage for the maiden event.

The Images of Keta Foundation, made up of a couple of inspired and committed individuals including Mr Alfred Tamakloe, Mr Cornelius Adedze, Mr  Gavivina Tamakloe, Dr Kordzo Sedegah and Mr Dephor Galley, aims to showcase Keta’s (town and District which in the past covered Anloga, Keta, Ketu South and North, and Akatsi South and North) history, with the goal to inspire current and future generations to appreciate its glorious past and work to make it great again.
