‘I Will Never Give Myself Up As Clickbait’ – Ireti Doyle Speaks On Divorce From Ex-Husband, Patrick Doyle

Veteran Nollywood actress, Ireti Doyle, has opened up about her divorce from her ex-husband, Patrick Doyle, and her decision to remain silent after their marriage ended.

Naija News recalls that Patrick and Ireti married in 2004, and the ace movie star confirmed their divorce in 2023.

Ireti Doyle, in a social media post, officially announced that she had divorced her husband, but she is still keeping his name because she spent years building her brand on it.

In an interview with media personality, Morayo Afolabi Brown, Ireti Doyle said she decided to stay quiet after their divorce because the issue is not the business of the public space.

The thespian said she would never be clickbait, stressing that the only people she owed an explanation regarding the divorce were her family and a few people who gathered at their wedding.

The veteran actress noted that break-ups, especially long-term relationships, are always painful, but it is better to heal than to vent anger online.

Ireti Doyle added that after a marriage break-up, people should learn to spend more time speaking to themselves, understanding what went wrong in the union, rather than ranting online.

Morayo asked, “Let’s talk about your marriage, the divorce, when the divorce happened with your ex, you were both quiet, we didn’t hear from both of you, you didn’t tell us anything, what would you say that experience has taught you or formed who you become today?”

Ireti said, “First of all, you didn’t hear anything because it wasn’t your business. Two people come together to get married, and there’s a celebration. Sadly, something goes wrong, and you can no longer continue your journey together. The only people you owe an explanation to, if at all, are those small family and friends who gathered on day one. You see, the larger audience you’re performing for does not care.

“I personally would never knowingly give myself up as clickbait. You’re never going to win, so who are you explaining your matter to? The end of a long-term relationship, let alone marriage, is painful. Whatever the circumstances, not apportioning blame is painful. You need to spend the energy you’re using to perform for an audience who doesn’t care to sit down, go deep within, understand what went wrong for the sole purpose of not making the same mistake again.”
